WEST ORANGE, NJ - Today, Liberty Middle School was on lockdown after the school received a threatening phone call. The WOPD and Essex County Sheriff's Office responded and did a sweep of the school before declaring it safe.

According to Superintendent Jeffrey Rutzky, all students and faculty are fine and were able to resume normal activities.

At this time, the caller who made the threat is still unknown.

Liberty was not the only school on lockdown today--a number of other schools were also on lockdown. These schools included: Indian Fields Elementary in South Brunswick; Maple Hill Elementary in Middletown, NY; Ivy Hill Elementary School in Newark; West Milford High School and Macopin Middle School in West Milford; Cresskill Junior-Senior High in Cresskill; and Cranford High School and Brookside Place School in Cranford. 

These events came on the heels of two incidents that occurred last week in Maplewood: Code Red Alert at Maplewood Middle School and a Code Yellow Alert at Columbia High School. New details were released today.
