LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Township of Livingston officially cut the ribbon at Livingston’s new Xtend Barre studio on Saturday after the studio officially opened on Friday at 1150 Town Center Way.

Xtend Barre is an international franchise and a barre-based, full-body workout class involving both strength and cardio. The first New Jersey-based studio was recently franchised by Parsippany resident Elizabeth Wyder, who said she was originally looking to open her business in Morristown, but was immediately intrigued when she drove by the Livingston complex.

“There’s more to New Jersey than Morristown, so we came here and I fell in love,” she said. “The broker for the place was great, the landlord is great, the town has been amazing, so I’m very happy that we chose Livingston for sure.”

Wyder began her career as an online interior designer, which required her to work from home. She said that working from home made her crave more human interaction, which is why she began exercising in group-class settings.

Despite working out at many different studios, Wyder said she stumbled across and fell in love with one Pilates studio in Red Bank that required her to drive 90 minutes just to work out and eventually inspired her to bring an Xtend Barre closer to home.

Since purchasing the location in Livingston, Wyder said many residents have been stopping by to compliment her on the studio. She also said the township has been nothing but supportive of her business, specifically stating that even getting the permits to open was more pleasant than she imagined.

“Everyone that works for the township is so helpful and understood that this is my first time and that I need help,” she said. “They’ve really walked me through everything I needed to know.”

Members of the Livingston Township Council and the Livingston Chamber of Commerce joined Wyder and her team on Saturday to celebrate their first weekend in Livingston. To read more about Xtend Barre, click HERE or contact livingston@xtendbarre.com.

Let the Games Begin

I am truly awed by the Olympics.  Watching these superb young athletes on TV inspires me to renew my membership to the gym and pursue my lifelong dream of taking home the gold.

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...
