LIVINGSTON, NJ - This Saturday, Livingston SYLS (Senior Youth and Leisure Services) Department and Livingston Health Department will be hosting its second annual Zumba® for the Cure to benefit breast cancer, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Senior Community Center.

The creator of the event and Program Supervisor for Senior, Adult programming and Town Special Events, Liliana Branquinho, said there is a suggested donation of $5 and proceeds will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Branquinho said it’s important that people participate in the event to support the cause.

“Breast cancer affects everyone...we all know someone that has been affected by this terrible disease,” Branquinho said. “It's very important to bring awareness to the community and raises funds to support and continue research for the cure.”

According to Branquinho, attendees will be given a chance to win door prizes such as an overnight stay and brunch at The Madison Hotel, and gift certificates to places such as Beauty Couture Skin Care Boutique, Shalom Nails, Tutto Fresco, Rosie's Nails and Subway Hair Salon.

Branquinho said Zumba was selected as the fundraiser because it’s a healthy way to raise money for breast cancer.

“It's a fun way to support the cause while burning some calories,” Branquinho said.

She added that the class will be taught by three SYLS/Zumba instructors, KJ Bryant, Shira Searle and Betsy Rauch and there will also be an belly dancing portion.

Branquinho added that residents and non-residents are welcome and registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. Participants must be 18+. To register, contact Liliana at 973-535-7925 or email lbranquinho@livingstonnj.org.

I am truly awed by the Olympics.  Watching these superb young athletes on TV inspires me to renew my membership to the gym and pursue my lifelong dream of taking home the gold.

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...
