LIVINGSTON, NJ — Friday, June 14 is National Flip Flop Day, created by Tropical Smoothie Cafe to celebrate its customers and highlight its fundraising effort for Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine.
From 2 to 7 p.m. on June 14, customers can get a free, limited-edition Sunshine Smoothie if they wear flip flops to any of the 700-plus locations, including the Livingston-based cafe at 280 Eisenhower Pkwy.
No coupon or purchase is needed to get the free special smoothie, which is a combination of orange, banana, pineapple and mango.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe will also be collecting donations to support Camp Sunshine, which addresses the effects of a life-threatening illness on not only the child who is ill, but the entire family as well. Each year, Camp Sunshine offers families the opportunity to put aside the stress and severity of having a child with an illness and just have fun at their camp.
Over the past 10 years, Tropical Smoothie Cafe has been able to donate more than $6.3 million to Camp Sunshine. Last year, the Livingston café raised more than $2,500 for Camp Sunshine. This year's fundraising goal is $3,000, according to franchise owners Chris and Wendy Strutt.
In addition to the free Sunshine Smoothie, the cafe will also offer live music, samples and raffles (including the “free smoothies for a year” card) on Friday. The donations are optional.
