LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston High School Girls Varsity Softball earned the fourth seed in the Essex County Tournament, landing the Lancers in the top five for the tournament beginning on Saturday, May 7.

The Lancers currently stand behind Mount St. Dominic, which earned the top seed in the tournament for a second year, second-seed West Essex and third-seed Nutley. With an 8-8 overall record this season, the Lancers stand in the middle of the pack for the Supper Essex Conference.

Livingston was defeated by Cedar Grove, 6-5, in a close game on Monday, May 2. The game was tied 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning with two RBI by Livingston senior Ally Royce throughout the game. Cedar Grove’s Jessica Sinisi, however, rallied the team with an RBI triple that ensured Cedar Grove’s final-inning victory over the Lancers.

The Lancers had a few late-April victories over Montclair, Parsippany Hills and Ocean Township, however, that contributed to its high seeding in the Essex County Tournament.

The Lancers will take on second-seed West Essex on May 4 at 4 p.m. at West Essex.

If the Lancers advance past the first round on May 7, quarterfinals of the Essex County Tournament is set to be played on May 14 with the semifinals on May 20 and the final on May 21 at 7 p.m. at Ivy Hill Park.
