LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Public Library will host its 4th annual Makers Day on Saturday, March 23, 2019. Last year, 400 people attended the event and experienced a robotics demonstration as well as a interactive activities and crafts with LEGOs, electrical circuits, and slime.
Makers Day is a statewide initiative designed to celebrate, promote, and introduce maker culture, as well as the values associated with making tinkering and STEM-based learning. This year, the library has decided to expand its celebration to an entire month of events.
“We didn’t want this to only be a one-time thing for kids,” said Katie Neylan, Adult Services Librarian, “so we have expanded the programs we are offering throughout March and calling it Makers Month.”
Community members of all ages are invited to come for a series of exciting events that include inventing, crafting, cooking, astronomy, and gardening.
On Makers Day itself -- Saturday, March 23 from 1 - 4 PM -- participants will experience a robotics demonstration from local robotics clubs, as well as interactive activities with catapults, button making, astronomy, and more. The Library will also be showcasing its Library of Things, a collection of portable makerspace kits (also known as the Ready, Set, Create! Toolkits) and other borrowable items such as mobile hotspots and telescopes. Plus, there will be a Story Book Diorama Workshop for adults beginning at 2pm.
Makers Day is free and no sign-up is needed. Makers Day at Livingston Public Library will be open from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, March 23. Activities have been designed for grades 3 and above while supplies last. The Story Book Diorama Workshop for adults will begin at 2pm and requires registration.
