Abilities Expo 2018 Offers Resources for People With Special Needs

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston’s Abilities Expo 2018 will be held on Sunday, April 29, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Livingston High School. This family-friendly event showcases a variety of resources, products, services and technologies for people with special needs – all under one roof. The Expo is co-sponsored by Livingston Public Schools and the Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD).

Educational presentations on “Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC),” “Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy Through the Years,” and “Mindfulness” will be held between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Families of children and adults living with disabilities are invited to attend and explore resources that are available in the community by visiting the many vendors that will be exhibiting at the event.

Vendors on site will include the LACD, Seeing Eye, Livingston Police Department, Livingston Fire Department, Canine Companions, JCC, Step Right Up Improve, Special Olympics, Runway of Dreams, Autistic Hero Teeshirts, Special Needs Parent Café, MUJC, Young Living Essential Oils, DVRS, NJ Tips, the Livingston Public Library, Planning for Adult Life, SYLS – Adaptive Recreation/Shining Stars, Access Link, Let’s Sit Together, Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs, and more.

This event is free and open to the community. No registration is required. Those who are attending the event should enter at the LHS cafeteria entrance closest to the teacher’s parking lot.

“As a community resident and a member of the LACD, I had the opportunity to be the keynote speaker at last year‘s Ability Expo. I was impressed with the participants and the vendors and how well everybody responded to the families with special needs,” said Bruce Freeman, a Livingston resident, author/columnist/entrepreneur and college professor who spoke on “Turning Adversity into Opportunity” at last year’s event.

Lisa Capone-Steiger, assistant superintendent of Student Services for Livingston Public Schools, noted that months of planning go into the Abilities Expo, which she describes as “a powerful opportunity for families of children and adults with disabilities to find resources; collaborate with professionals in the field; and explore the many supports available in and around our community.”

“This has been a dream of mine for decades. I am truly grateful to the LACD and the staff in LPS for the commitment of their time, creativity and energy in making this dream a reality,” she said.

Those who attend the event are encouraged to share their photos with the hashtag: #LIVEXPO2018!

Avenging Movie Credits

As a vibrant, relevant, totally hip and “with it” dad I am proud to say that I have now seen every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  All nineteen of them.

I am less proud to admit that, of those Marvel movies that I can remember, I didn’t understand any of ...
