Cycle Red for Heart Disease to Benefit Heart Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center

In order to raise support and awareness for heart health, members of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) family will host Cycle Red for Heart Disease, an indoor cycling event that will feature three different 45-minute cycling classes on Feb. 25 at noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., at CycleBar Livingston, located at 277 Eisenhower Parkway.

Hosted by Dr. Joel, Janet, Elle and Amanda Braverman, Margie Heller, and Dr. Alan Garten, this fourth annual event will benefit The Heart Center at SBMC. Past proceeds have funded medical equipment for SBMC’s Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) along with renovations to the CTICU Family Waiting Area.

Cycle Red was started in 2015 by Dr. Joel Braverman, an anesthesiologist in the CTICU at Saint Barnabas, who lost his 46-year-old father to heart disease. Heller, Administrative Director of Community Health and Outreach, became involved a year later as a way of paying tribute to her 54-year-old brother, Howard Weiss, who died of sudden cardiac death.

“Dr. Braverman and I were both motivated to turn our bad personal experiences into something that would raise awareness and that could benefit others,” said Heller. “The Cycle Red event does that and promotes the importance of exercise in staying heart healthy. This year’s Cycle Red will be held in memory of my father, Daniel Weiss, a co-host of the event, who we sadly lost earlier this year.”

The cost per session is $100. All participants will receive a t-shirt and light refreshments will be served.

Spin shoes are required, but CycleBar will provide shoes to participants who do not have them. To learn more, register, or to make a donation, visit www.rwjbh.org/cyclered.

A Date with Destiny

Leslie. . . it would be the bomb . . .  if we could go to prom . . . together.

For the record, Leslie is my wife, and this is my openly public attempt at a promposal.

My twin high school seniors taught me about promposals, those cute, showy, and sometimes over-the-top ways of asking someone special to prom.  This year they have been on both the ...
