Healing with Humor at Livingston Public Library

On February 13 starting at 12 noon, the Livingston Public Library will present a program “Healing with Humor” by psychotherapist EVa Silver, in which participants will be introduced to a psychodynamic perspective of the interplay between physical and mental health with an emphasis on humor and its value.

This program is the first in the Library’s partnership with ACAP (the Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis) of Livingston.

ACAP has been continuously, nationally accredited by ABAP, the American Board for Accreditation in Psychoanalysis, since 1990.

Their  programs provide alternative paths to mental health careers, as well as courses meeting professional continuing education requirements. Many students from all backgrounds — educators, clergy, medical professionals, counselors, veterans and more — not seeking a degree or certification take classes to build clinical skills or for personal growth.

Participants will learn how HUMOR can be used to

—Create a sense of camaraderie

—Reduce intensity and discomfort

—Reverse negative energy

—Discharge aggression safely

—Help us stay in reality

—Enable us to look at things differently

Eva Silver, LCSW, Cert. Psya., has been integrating humor into her psychotherapy practice for more than 35 years. In her work at numerous psychiatric hospitals, out-patient clinics, and private practice, she has found that using humor can gently uncover deep levels of the mental process.

Mrs. Silver has taught at psychoanalytic institutes in Boston and Seattle, and is currently on the faculty of ACAP. She is in private practice in Livingston, where she sees individuals and families, and provides supervision to clinicians.

The program is open to all but registration is required. Attendees are welcome to bring along their lunch during the program.
