Livingston Public Library to Host Film Screening in Partnership with Woman in Media - Newark

Women in Media-Newark (WIM-N) will hold its eleventh annual International Film Festival March 25 through April 16 in celebration of Women’s History Month. Working in conjunction with Rutgers University–Newark, their major partner, WIM-N will host the film festival over eleven days at nine venues: including the Livingston Public Library on Tuesday, March 31st.

At 5pm a piano concert by Danny Mixon will occur. Mixon is a pianist who began making an impression in the late 1960’s when he was a teen-ager in Brooklyn, playing jazz in a manner that showed a variety of influences, including a strong feeling for Erroll Garner. In the years since then, he has been a member of Charles Mingus’s group, has been Betty Carter’s accompanist for four years and has worked his own gigs.

The film, “I Remember” will then begin at 6pm. The film essays stolen memories and broken hearts. It is an intense experience of a woman and her family as they come to terms with the early onset of Alzheimer’s. The protagonist struggles with the gradual loss of identity and lack of control over her own life. Her husband and daughter deal with the strenuous journey of caring and their own dilemma between love, responsibility and aspiration. Hopes, ambitions and dreams often fade away as their lives get disrupted in the absence of adequate institutional, social and emotional support.
