What's It Worth: Valuing Your Treasures

Household treasures can come in many forms: from Tiffany lamps to Depression glass, from rare paintings to comic books.

On the evening of Monday February 3rd, the Livingston Public Library will present a lecture entitled “What’s It Worth”: Valuing your Treasures”,  where the speaker, Marilyn Fish of Legacy Art and Estate Services, will address the subject of the valuation of art, antiques and collectibles.

After discussing examples from the PBS program, Antiques Roadshow, Marilyn will explain the process of formal appraisal as it is carried out by professional appraisers for the purposes of estate planning, insurance, and donation.  She will then explain why and how attendees can systematically and accurately evaluate items in their possession using books and internet resources.

Marilyn has  an MA in Art History from Rutgers, graduate work in Museum Studies from FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC), has completed 60 credits of coursework with the Appraisers Association of America, and has passed the USPAP test (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice).

She has been employed in various capacities in the field of art history including director of the docent program at the Shelburne Museum (Vermont), freelance researcher and writer for museum catalogues and art magazines, editor of Style 1900 magazine (Lambertville, NJ), and director of the Jason Jacques Gallery (NYC). She is currently lecturing at community centers and libraries on subjects related to art history and antiques and also offers appraisal services to private clients.

The program is free and open to all but registration is required either via the Library events calendar at www.livingstonlibrary.org, in person, or by calling 9739924600
