Evi Meinhardt (Nee Singer), loving wife, mother, grandmother friend and active community member, passed away on March 27, 2021, after her long and courageous battle with Leiomyosarcoma.
Evi was born in Vienna, Austria on June 14, 1936. When Evi was two years old, along with her parents and lifelong best family friends, she moved to Santiago, Chile to escape the war. When Evi was 26 years old, she moved to the United States by herself to live with her uncle in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Three weeks later, she went on a blind date, where she met her future husband, Albert Meinhardt. They were married three months later. Evi and Al continued with Al's father's business, B. Meinhardt in Newark, New Jersey.
Evi and Al’s son, Edward, was born in 1964 in Newark, New Jersey. They moved to Short Hills, New Jersey, where they live for most of their life.
After Al died in 1999, Evi moved to Livingston to be closer to her son, Ed, daughter-in-law, Elena, and two grandchildren, Jillian and Garrett. Evi was close with her grandchildren and always attended sporting events, music recitals and school functions.
Evi was actively involved in the community and Temple B'nai Abraham, where she watched her son and grandchildren have their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Evi was Sisterhood President and honorary lifetime Board of Trustees member. Evi was a member of Curt C. & Else Silberman Foundation in Washington, D.C. and had a lifetime member of The Hadassah Foundation.
Evi was an avid traveler and had the opportunity to share a Santiago with her family. Evi was kind, strong and generous.
