LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Township of Livingston officially kicked off its annual Youth Appreciation Week (YAW) on Saturday, marking the start of Senior, Youth & Leisure Services (SYLS) and Healthy Community Healthy Youth (HCHY)’s joint effort to celebrate Livingston’s youngest residents by hosting a multitude of events and activities over the next seven days.

The grand finale is the popular community-wide Family Festival Day to be held at the Memorial Oval on May 18, followed by the annual Town-Wide Campout and a Movie Under the Stars later that same evening. As the 2019 Kiwanis Karnival nears its end, here's a list of more upcoming events for all ages to enjoy:

May 15 — Healthy Eating & Stuff the Bus Food Collection for CHOW

May 16 — Building Blocks Workshop – LEGO Building for Families

An architect who lived in Egypt will talk about pyramid architecture at the Livingston Senior/Community Center (204 Hillside Avenue) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Children ages four and older can build a LEGO pyramid, Sphinx or temple. Participants must pre-register through Community Pass on the township’s website. (link)

May 17 — Parents Night Out

Parents can drop off their kindergarten to 7th grade children for a supervised mini-camp of pizza, games, activities and a movie. A snack will be served during the movie. Parents must pre-register their children online at livingstonnj.org through Community Pass. This activity is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.at the Livingston/Senior Community Center at 204 Hillside Avenue.

May 18— Family Festival Day of Free Activities

This 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. extravaganza is held at the Oval. Family fun includes face painters, a DJ, Girl Scout Craft Tent, a balloon artist, Food Day Tent with healthy nutrition, LMAC, LYCS leaders and township committees, child ID and car seat inspections with the Livingston Police Department, a Livingston Robotics Club exhibition, Adopt-a-Pet Tent, Aqua Extreme obstacle course and Sea Monster soft play maze and competition.

Other activities include the Chalk Walk, blow up slides, bounce house, petting zoo, pony rides, GAGA pit, games with the YMCA, Force Homestead Tours and outer space-themed games and crafts with the Livingston Young Families Club. The evening concludes with The Lego Movie 2 and the town-wide camp out (must pre-register at livingstonnj.org through Community Pass for camp out).

Children can explore a fire truck, an ambulance and a Public Work trucks during Touch-A-Truck. The Robotics Club will also be selling food.

In addition to YAW, the HCHY supports community projects including the Robotics Club, Friends of the Livingston Animal Shelter, Bike Livingston and The Children’s Theater of Livingston.
