WEST ORANGE, NJ — Livingston-based accounting firm Levine, Jacobs & Company and the New Jersey Law Journal are co-sponsoring a forum to encourage professional development and networking for young professionals.

The forum is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Essex County Country Club, located at 350 West Mount Pleasant Avenue in West Orange.

According to a report from ABC News, 80 percent of today’s jobs are landed through networking. Many milennials rely on social media instead of the face-to-face events that foster a live connection.

In her book "Meet 100 People, A How-to Guide to the Career Edge Everyone’s Missing,” Pat Hedley, networking expert and advisor to growth companies, said that the key to building a robust professional network is to regularly meet in person with interesting people. The meetings can be with new acquaintances, colleagues you’d like to get to know better or people you’ve admired from afar.

The overarching goal, according to Hedley, is to expand your network beyond your existing peer group and current contacts.

Networking is a learned skill and, like anything else, it requires continuous practice. This event is geared toward young professionals under the age of 40, in any industry, to meet other like-minded professionals who are at the same stage in their careers.

There is no charge to attend, but participants must register by Oct. 21. Fir more information or to RSVP, contact Christine Anne Bailey at CABailey@ljcpa.com or (973) 992-9400 ext. 320.
