LIVINGSTON, NJ — In preparation of Livingston High School's 2021 Senior Internship Program (SIP), which will offer in-person, hybrid or remote internship opportunities to seniors in the spring, virtual mentor information sessions are being held on Jan. 11 and Jan. 15 for any local businesses interested in taking on an intern for the SIP term of May 24 to June 18.

The four-week program provides an opportunity for seniors who are in good academic standing and on track to graduate in June 2021 to gain real-world work experience. The two sessions will provide additional information to prospective mentors about how these students can help their organizations while further developing skill sets in their individual fields of interest.

According to SIP Coordinator and high school business teacher Maggie Wohltmann—who will hold periodic meetings with participating students to assist them with the process and completing the program requirements—the SIP empowers Livingston students to take ownership of their education by pursuing an internship in a special area of interest.

During the four-week program, participants will expand their learning through their internship in place of attending traditional classes. Students are expected to spend a minimum of 20 hours per week at their internship and no more than eight hours a day for those students under age 18.

Students will submit weekly journal assignments throughout the internship and complete a final presentation detailing and reflecting on their experience as a culminating assessment in June. Students will earn one credit upon completion of all program requirements and a positive evaluation from both their internship mentor and faculty advisors.

Prospective mentors can sign up for one of two sessions—Monday, Jan. 11 at 3:30 p.m. or Friday, Jan. 15 at 9 a.m.—BY CLICKING HERE. Additional information can be found on the SIP website or by contacting Maggie Wohltmann at mwohltmann@livingston.org or 973-535-8000 ext. 5408.

Seniors will receive additional information about the program during their physical education/health classes.  In addition, Mrs. Wohltmann will be holding two afterschool information sessions for students in January.
