LIVINGSTON, NJ — TAPinto Livingston, the only online independent news operation dedicated solely to covering the Township of Livingston, set a single-month record for readership in March.

The 210-percent increase in readership is directly attributable to the news site’s COVID-19 coverage, as the site continues to coordinate daily news reporting of how the virus is affecting the Livingston community.

In February, TAPinto Livingston had 18,680 individual users who visited the site. The number of readers spiked to 49,456 in March, making the news site one of the most read among the entire TAPinto news network of more than 80 hyperlocal sites in three states.

Moreover, TAPinto Livingston also shattered its own record for page views. In February, the news site had 38,238 pageviews. In March, that number jumped to 118,356, a 210-percent increase.

“This startling increase in readership demonstrates that the Livingston community has relied on TAPinto as a source of accurate information during this challenging time, and we appreciate the trust that the township has bestowed upon our team,” said Danielle Santola, owner and managing editor of TAPinto Livingston.

As both a resident of Livingston and the owner of a local small business, Santola added that she is grateful to the local leaders—including all members of our two governing bodies as well as our township manager, superintendent, police and fire chief, health officer and others—for "being so open about how coronavirus is affecting the Livingston community each day" and to her fellow residents for "making it so easy to find uplifting stories amid all the chaos."

"The community-minded spirit of Livingston is unparalleled, and is one of the many reasons I love working in my hometown," she said. "At TAPinto Livingston, we take our responsibility of providing original local news about the pandemic very seriously and will continue to work seven days a week to tell this evolving story. We thank all of our readers for their support and encourage the community to continue sharing their stories.”

Overall, TAPinto’s network of more than 80 local news sites in New Jersey, New York and Florida broke all readership records in March with 9,628,289 pageviews and 3,412,844 readers, an increase of 300 percent from February.
