LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston High School’s (LHS) Quiz Bowl teams recently competed at the QuBit tournament at High Technology High School in Iselin. By earning a third place finish, the A Team earned a spot in the National Academic Tournament, which will be held in Atlanta, Ga. in May.
“It was a great day for the Livingston kids and a testament to the great depth and breadth of knowledge of kids who have been taught in the Livingston district,” said team advisor Guy Rabner.
During Quiz Bowl tournaments, teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more.
The A team, which includes seniors Jonathan Ackerman and Jenny Zheng and sophomores Carolyn Meng and Rosa Xia, finished third out of 32 teams, placing the highest of all New Jersey teams. LHS earned the third place spot by defeating East Brunswick High School, 370-215, in the final game—avenging an earlier defeat.
Up next, the A team will be heading to the National Academic tournament in Atlanta in May to compete against the best and brightest students in the country. The team is currently ranked 34th in the United States and hopes to meet with similar success at nationals and through the rest of its season. The complete national rankings can be found HERE.
