LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Township of Livingston will sound its fire siren in conjunction with the Class of 2020 Town-Wide Clap-Out at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, at which time the entire community is asked to step outside and make noise in honor of the Livingston High School (LHS) graduates.
As of Thursday morning, all LHS seniors will have their diplomas in hand, as the district provided an opportunity earlier this week for students to safely convene on the turf to receive their diplomas and have their photos taken with immediate family in front of a step-and-repeat backdrop. The three-day event, dubbed "My Graduation Moment" at LHS, allowed five graduates to receive diplomas every 15 minutes.
At the start of the month, members of the Livingston Township Council, Livingston Police Department, Livingston Fire Department and more joined Livingston Public Schools administrators and board of education members in surprising seniors at their homes with a special delivery of their caps, gowns and other keepsake items.
As seen in the photos above, many seniors have also reflected on some of their fondest LHS memories during their final month of school. (NOTE: More "Senior Spotlights" will be added to this album as they are received.)
The seniors will officially become LHS alumni during a virtual ceremony being held Thursday at 6 p.m. and will finally come together in person as a class on July 8 for a special post-graduation event.
In the absence of the traditional “cap toss” at the commencement of Thursday's ceremony, graduates have been asked to step outside their homes, where the district hopes they will be met by cheers from their neighbors.
"This will be our opportunity to unite together as one to cheer our seniors on to promising futures as caps are tossed in the air all across Livingston," said LHS principal Mark Stern. "Please plan to come out of your homes, bang pots and pans, blow horns, blast music, and clap your hands for the members of the Class of 2020 as they reach this important milestone of high school graduation."
