LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Sunrise Rotary and the Livingston Rotary Club recently teamed up to purchase and deliver dictionaries to every third grader in town.

Harrison Elementary School, whose students are pictured above with Rotarians Sean Whalen, Monte Ehrenkranz and Jay Freireich, was the first to receive this gift.

The mission of the Dictionary Project, which is a national Rotary Club initiative, is to “assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary.”

According to the mission statement, the dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. As educators see third graders as "the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn," according to the Rotary Club, the national organization encourages sponsors to help them give dictionaries annually to these students.
