LIVINGSTON, NJ — Shortly after Livingston High School (LHS) Key Club President Priela Safran approached Livingston’s Senior, Youth & Leisure Services (SYLS) about what the club could do to help senior citizens during the health crisis, club members compiled a handful of video messages into the following montage as a special way to honor veterans on Memorial Day.
Liliana Branquinho, Senior & Adult Enrichment and Special Events Supervisor for Livingston Township, explained that it was "a very difficult decision to cancel this year's Memorial Day parade," stating that the Memorial Day Committee and Livingston veterans "work very hard to organize a ceremony and a parade to honor those veterans and families who paid the ultimate price to preserve our freedom."
“This Memorial Day has been completely shaken by this pandemic, and to have it memorialized by our younger generation by paying tribute with this amazing video montage is just incredible and heartwarming," she said. "I had tears in my eyes when I first watched it...
"I was so proud and honored to once again work with the LHS Key Club but primarily because I knew what this was going to mean for our veterans, how happy and supported they would feel.”
Although Livingston’s typical Memorial Day celebrations were canceled this year, Branquinho urged all residents to find time this week “to recognize and remember the true meaning” of Memorial Day.
