LIVINGSTON, NJ — More than 30 blood donors recently came out to support the Livingston Mall's first community blood drive, hosted by New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS). According to NJBS, one unit of blood can help up to three different patients, meaning that the recent blood drive will impact up to 126 lives.
The Livingston Mall served as the perfect venue for the drive, as NJBS is currently seeking large donation venues where social distancing can be maintained, and the Livingston Mall recently reopened with a comprehensive COVID-19 Exposure Control Policy in place and a vow to support initiatives aimed at assisting those experiencing hardship as a result of the pandemic.
NJBS reports that more than 1500 units of blood was donated last summer as a result of mobile drives via buses that cannot run this summer due to social-distancing protocols. However, the blood center recognizes that finding locations like the Livingston Mall to host donation drives is imperative over the next few months because blood supply is at a dangerously low level due to COVID-19.
Extra precautions are currently being taken at all donation locations to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Anyone experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory infection or flu-like symptoms is not eligible to donate. CLICK HERE for additional information on donor eligibility and COVID-19 precautions.
