LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Department of Radiation Oncology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) in Livingston—which has been delivering the highest-quality care in the treatment of cancer to patients and their families since 1969—recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and five decades of state-of-the-art cancer care.
“The field of radiation therapy was fairly new in the 60’s, and very few centers embraced this technology until well into the 70s,” said Alison Grann, MD, chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at SBMC. “Saint Barnabas Medical Center was a pioneer in the technology then, and continues adopting the latest delivery techniques today.”
The Department of Radiation Oncology at SBMC has a large array of sophisticated, state-of-the-art technology for treatment, imaging, planning and delivery of cancer care. A leader in the field of radiation, SBMC was the first in New Jersey to offer Halcyon – a revolutionary way to treat cancer with radiation.
Additionally, SBMC was the first in the state to offer prone positioning for breast cancer treatment and selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT). Furthermore, the medical center’s commitment to offering the latest technology led to the introduction of the CyberKnife® program in 2016 and AlignRT for left-breast cancer radiation therapy in 2018.
At the Department of Radiation Oncology, board-certified radiation oncologists are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to deliver state-of-the-art cancer treatment. A multidisciplinary team of radiation oncologists and medical oncologists work together to design individualized treatment plans tailored to the needs of each patient.
SBMC prides itself on its ability to provide a caring and supportive environment for all of their patients and their families.
