LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges will hold a Father's Day Weekend Virtual 5K and Family Fun Run, an opportunity for people of all ages to get outside, get active, and engage with their community while also staying safe and practicing social distancing. Run individually, with family, or on a team.

The event will take place Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21. Participants can choose the distance they will be running and map out their own course. Runners will be able to share their results via a mobile device app. The event also includes a Fun Run Costume Show, with participants encouraged to dress as their favorite “dad” from popular culture, such as a TV or movie character, and post their photos on social media.

5K registrants pay a nominal entry fee, which includes a T-Shirt, and proceeds benefit the community through relief services the Y is providing during this pandemic. The Metro YMCAs have launched a Strength of Community Campaign with an annual fundraising goal of $250,000 to support programs and services that combat isolation, provide essential and lifesaving needs, address food insecurity, and support the academic enrichment of youth.

This is the second virtual 5K the Metro Y association has planned, following the Mother’s Day Virtual 5K and Family Fun Run in May.

“Despite the challenges this public health crisis has presented, our Ys continue to offer new and exciting activities to engage our members and encourage them to be healthy at home,” said Richard K. Gorab, President and CEO of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges. “The Virtual 5K and Family Fun Run is a great way for families to celebrate all the dads and dad figures in our lives while supporting the Y and our communities.”

Sponsors include North Jersey Entertainment. To register for the Virtual 5K and Family Fun Run, visit metroymcas.org/5K. To inquire about sponsorship opportunities contact Bill SanFilippo at bsanfilippo@metroymcas.org or 201-919-7560.
