LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Township of Livingston nearly broke into the top 25 in this year’s Niche.com ranking of “Best Places to Live in New Jersey,” ranking at No. 26 in the state and No. 3 in Essex County just behind Upper Montclair and Short Hills.
This year, Livingston was also named the No. 8 place with the best public schools in New Jersey, the No. 18 best place to raise a family in New Jersey, the No. 21 best suburb to live in New Jersey and the No. 28 place to buy a house in New Jersey.
Nationally, Livingston ranked 744th out of 18,516 places to live in the United States, according to Niche.com.
The website states that such rankings “help students and parents find the schools and places to live that are right for them.”
According to Niche.com, the annual ratings and “honest reviews” represent” a healthy balance between statistical rigor and practical relevance in the ranking.” Rankings are based on “aggregated data/responses” from each place and is “inspected for bad data including outliers or inaccurate values.”
Niche.com’s 2021 real estate rankings give Livingston an A+ overall and the following individual grades:
- Public Schools: A+
- Crime and Safety: B
- Housing: B+
- Nightlife: B
- Good for families: A+
- Diversity: B+
- Jobs: B+
- Weather: C+
- Cost of Living: C
- Health and Fitness: A
- Outdoor Activities: A
- Commute: B
With a population of 29,846, the Township of Livingston Township is described on the site as a municipality that offers its residents “a sparse suburban feel.” It also states that most Livingston residents own their homes, that residents “tend to have moderate political views” and that the public schools “are highly rated.” Niche.com listed Millburn, Warren, Demarest, Tenafly and New Providence as comparable municipalities to Livingston.
