ELIZABETH, NJ — A Summit-based pediatric gastroenterologist, identified as Dr. Michael Tyshkov, 62, of Livingston, has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting one of his patients on numerous occasions over the course of several years, according to acting Union County Prosecutor Michael Monahan.
Monahan announced on Monday that Tyshkov has been charged with second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact following an investigation by the Union County Special Victims Unit.
According to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Stacey Zyriek, who is prosecuting the case, the investigation revealed that Tyshkov had been seeing the 20-year-old female victim regularly for treatment over the course of slightly more than a decade. The investigation also revealed that the assaults occurred during medical exams on numerous occasions between April 2016 and March 2019, Zyriek said.
Tyshkov was arrested without incident on Friday and sent to Union County Jail pending court action. According to the prosecutor’s office, convictions on second-degree criminal charges are commonly punishable by five-to-10 years in state prison.
In a press release submitted on Monday, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office urged anyone with information about Tyshkov’s activities to contact Special Victims Unit Detective Jennifer Smith at (908) 965-3814 or Summit Police Department Detective Christopher Medina at (908) 273-0051.
It was also noted that these criminal charges are mere accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court of law.
