WEST ORANGE, NJ — Livingston High School senior Austin Paris took second place to headline the performance of Livingston wrestlers in the Region 3 tournament held over the weekend at West Orange High School. Paris and teammates Agostino Petrillo and Sean Neary have qualified to represent the Lancers in the NJSIAA Championships.
Paris was runner-up at 195 pounds, where he decisioned Jack Lyden of West Morris, 10-5; Zach Rossow of Whippany Park, 4-3; and Jamal Joseph of Irvington, 4-3. Paris was pinned by Gianluca Birnbaum of Hanover Park in 1:39 in the semifinal round. Paris has a 27-3 record this season with 17 victories by pin.
Petrillo was fourth at 126 pounds. He decisioned Stephen Malia of Warren Hills, 3-2; and Giovanni Rivera of Morristown, whom Petrillo faced twice and beat both times over the weekend by scores of 7-5 and 5-3.
Neary picked up a pair of victories at 113 pounds. He beat Joshua Eng of Caldwell, 7-4; and Michael Rodriguez of Bection Regional, 8-3. Jason Wittlinger (132 lbs.) and Max Lee (152) also qualified and competed in Region 3 for the Lancers this weekend.
The NJSIAA/Rothman Orthopaedics Individual Wrestling Championships will begin Thursday on the mats at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City
