Community Comes Together to Support Livingston Athletic Program

LIVINGSTON, NJ — All generations of Livingston residents, from local youth to grandparents, supported the Livingston High School athletic department and specifically its senior athletes at the 17th annual “Taste of Livingston” Lancers on Parade Fashion Show and Tricky Tray held on Tuesday at the high school.

The event is the Big “L” Club’s largest fundraiser of the year, where dozens of local vendors supply samples of their best dishes for guests to enjoy, gifts for them to bid on in the tricky tray and clothing for the senior athletes to model in the fashion show.

“This is a night that makes memories for our high school seniors that they will cherish forever as they get ready to embark on the new chapter of their lives after high school,” said Big L presidents Lisa Tamburri and Karen Mendez. “The support for our organization from local restaurants and local clothing stores and also individuals and businesses makes the whole night possible, and we had amazing support this year.”

Proceeds from the event go directly back to the athletic program as well as provide a gift that will benefit all Livingston athletes. Previous gifts have included the “Big ‘L’ Snack Shop,” the Lancers tunnel, a portable scoreboard, the mascot costumes and more.

“This is traditionally one of the biggest events of the year, not only for parents and community members, but for the student athletes,” said Livingston Athletic Director David Cohen. “Without [the Big L] events like tonight simply do not happen. As an athletic director sitting in meetings with athletic directors and members of other school throughout the county, we offer things here in Livingston that many other athletes from other schools don’t get to experience, and that’s a direct result of the members of the Big L Club.”

Cohen recognized members of the Big L and students involved in the new Student Big L Club who volunteered at the event.

Other highlights of the event included performances from the Livingston High School Jazz Band and the youth cheerleading squad, The Outlaws.

Following the drawing of the tricky tray winners, who won baskets that included giveaways from gift cards to VIP tickets to the New Jersey Devils 2018 opening night, valued at $2000, student announcers Ben Asher, Samantha Kahn, Maximilian Goott and Marissa Lipschutz introduced their peers as they modeled clothing from local vendors.

“For The Big L Club, this event is a perfect representation of who we are and what we are here for,” said Tamburri and Mendez. “Our organization raises to benefit the student athletes and that is what was on display, especially with the ‘wall of fame,’ where each athlete had a large action shot of themselves displayed and they took home as a gift.”

On behalf of the organization, Tamburri and Mendez thanked the sponsors of this year’s event, which are pictured in the photo album above.

The premier sponsors were UPS and Levine, Jacobs & Co. LLC.
