NEWARK, NJ -- The Livingston girls tennis team defeated Millburn, 4-1, in the finals to capture the 2019 Essex County Tournament on Saturday.

Livingston, which won the county championship for the first time in seven years, had defeated Newark Academy, 3-2, earlier in the day to reach the finals.

The Lancers (10-2) won all three singles matchups over Millburn. Valencia Xu defeated Paulina Feoli, 6-0, 6-1, at first singles. Emma Conforti was a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 winner over Veda Madhusudan at second singles. Brielle Schwartz defeated Ritka Mishra, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0, at third singles.

Livingston’s second-doubles tandem of Stephanie Li and Allison Miller battled back from an early deficit in a marathon match to beat Annie Liu and Caitlin Vinsonhaler, 2-6, 6-3, 13-11.

Anna Bansal and Saniya Sankar of Millburn were winners over Emily Sze and Selena Zhu, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, at first doubles.
