LIVINGSTON, NJ -- Two members of the Livingston girls basketball team were chosen to the 2020 Super Essex Conference Colonial Division First Team.
Lauren Belcuore and Ava Intile, both juniors, represent the Lady Lancers on the first team, which was selected by county coaches.
Belcuore, a guard, had five games last winter in which she came up with at least four steals. She was also the top scorer on the Livingston girls soccer team that reached the Essex County Tournament finals last fall.
"Lauren Belcuore is an elite defensive player who many opposing coaches feel is the most tenacious man-to-man defender in Essex County," said Livingston head coach Buddy Wolfe. "She has a unique ability to not only force turnovers, but also to disrupt the other team from getting into the flow of their offense. Besides impacting the outcome of games with her defense, this season Lauren also led us in rebounding despite being one of the smaller players on the court."
Intile's versatile scoring ability made the forward a vital ingredient in the Livingston offense.
"Ava Intile was Livingston's leading scorer this season averaging 12.5 points per game," Wolfe said. "Ava works hard on her basketball game 12 months a year. This season all that effort paid huge dividends as she combined lethal outside shooting with an ability to drive to the basket and score inside. She was also the team's second leading rebounder and a much improved defender."
Senior forward Aliza Gelman of Livingston was chosen for the Colonial Division Second Team. Senior point guard Sarah Cullen received honorable mention.
