LIVINGSTON, NJ — Samuel Levshteyn and Robert Coleman of Livingston each were named to the 2019 Super Essex Conference All-American Division boys tennis first team, as selected by the league's coaches.
Led by Levshteyn, at first singles, and Coleman, at second singles, Livingston compiled a 19-11 record, including 6-4 in the highly competitive American Division, where the Lancers finished in third place behind Newark Academy and Montclair. The Lancers defeated Millburn, Columbia and Glen Ridge twice in the SEC Conference to secure third place.
Five Livingston players were named to the All-American Division second team: co-captains Max Esralew and Josh Meyers, Benjamin Frankstein, Jack Friedman and Andrew Rhodes. Benjamin Li and Jayson Pernick each received honorable mention.
Highlights of another strong season under veteran head coach Elliot Lovi and Paul Cirlincione including Livingston's victory in the Lancer Tennis Showdown. Ten of Livingston’s 11 losses were to opponents ranked in the state's Top 20: No. 1 Montgomery, No. 2 Newark Academy (three times), No. 4 Tenafly, No. 5 Montclair (three times), No. 5 Westfield and No. 18 Holmdel.
Livingston was a semifinalist in the North 1, Group 4 Sectional Tournament, where the Lancers lost to Montclair after defeating Passaic and West Orange in the tournament.
"Once again, Livingston played one of the most difficult tennis schedules in New Jersey," Lovi said, "and the team competed on a very high level."
