Lower Merion High School's Matt O'Connor, coming off of a record-setting season as the varsity team's quarterback, has been named a Mini Max Award winner for the state of Pennsylvania by the Maxwell Football Club.
O'Connor, along with 62 other standout football players were announced as Mini Max High School Award winners on November 28, 2018. The 63 players selected are from schools located in Districts 1, 3, 11 and 12 in the eastern half of the state. Players were nominated by their coaches throughout the 2018 season and were evaluated based on many criteria -- including football performance, academics, and community service.
O'Connor's on-field achievements were record-breaking this year, as he became Lower Merion High School's all-time leading passer in October. O'Connor finished the season with 160 completions on 295 attempts (.542%) for 2060 yards and 14 touchdowns. He threw 10 interceptions and had an overall QB rating of 77.3.
The Mini Max Award recipients will be honored at a dinner to be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the Drexelbrook Catering Ballroom in Drexel Hill. The awards dinner is open to the public and tickets are available on the club’s website.
The Maxwell Football Club will select one player from the group of Mini Max winners as the winner of the Pennsylvania High School Player of the Year, announced at the Jan. 10 awards dinner.
