You are an evil, despicable individual,” he told Rollins. “You are a liar, a manipulator, a thug, a scumbag. You don’t deserve to see the outside ever again in your lifetime.”

“You have no remorse, you are an individual without a soul,” stated said Judge John Capuzzi, of the Delaware County Common Pleas Court to the convicted murderer Derrick Rollins.  Rollins

“I wish the commonwealth would have brought a capital case and I could have sentenced you to death because that’s what you deserve,” Capuzzi said after sentencing the man to life in prison plus 32 to 16 years.

Rollins who back on March 14 was convicted of first-degree murder along with two counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault for two shootings that occurred less than an hour before he snuffed out the life of John Le.

In that case, Rollins fired 17 shots at a car leaving bullet holes in the vehicle in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia less than an hour before taking Le’s life.

Rollins attempt to elude capture took him as far as Decatur, Georgia where he was captured by US Marshals task force on August 22, 2017.

Seeds were planted for leniency using diminished capacity as a defense when during the trial Rollins’ attorney Kevin O’Neill admitted that his client was the shooter in Haverford Twp. and Philadelphia incidents.  He argued that Rollins had used both Xanax and marijuana before the shootings rendering him too intoxicated to understand what he was doing.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Hill countered that Rollins did not exhibit diminished capacity and in fact, Rollins took a series of very specific and deliberate actions that resulted in Le’s life being taken.

Le was a graduate of Lower Merion High School and Temple University.  He lived in Narberth with his parents, and he was known as a happy and cheerful guy that easily made friends.

Le reportedly had never met Rollins’ and no motive for the shooting was established.
