Bala Cynwyd,  Lower Merion Township, PA — Zagafen, a kosher pizzeria, is scheduled to open in April 2019 on Montgomery Avenue in Bala Cynwyd. The new pizza place will be located at 370 Montgomery Ave, where Citron & Rose restaurant once stood.

Kosher dining spots are difficult to come by in the Lower Merion area, especially kosher pizzerias. This is exactly why philanthropist and restaurant owner David Magerman set out to create a dining experience similar to a non-kosher restaurant’s offerings for those who eat strictly kosher.

The pizzeria aims to mimic popular University City pizza restaurant, Zavino. Like many others, Magerman was captivated by the menu and experience at Zavino, and he hopes to create an equally appealing and similar kosher experience.

Magerman has even partnered up with Greg Dobbs of the Zavino Hospitality Group to make the Zagafen dining experience as close to Zavino’s as possible.

Zagafen’s menu will have a focus on vegetables and cheese, sans meat. There will also be gluten-free options available as well as vegan dishes. The aim of this pizzeria is to serve as many dietary needs as possible, while not skimping on flavor.

Zagafen will borrow a few staple menu items from Zavino but they will put a kosher spin on the dishes to meet the dietary needs of customers. Magerman’s main goal of opening the pizzeria is to bring the community together, regardless of dietary restrictions.
