Belmont Hills, Lower Merion Township, PA — An alert officer from the Lower Merion Police Department was searching the area where a car burglar had recently broken into three cars in Belmont Hills and was able to identify the suspect and make an arrest.
Malik Myers, age 21, of the 1700 Block of N. 26th Street in Philadelphia was arrested and charged with multiple crimes including theft, receiving stolen property and possessing an instrument of crime.
On December 5, 2018, at 1:46 AM police were dispatched to the 100 Block of Ashland Avenue for suspicious activity of a male wearing all black clothing.
While investigating a resident approached the officer reporting that within the last 45 minutes someone had entered his vehicle, searched the vehicle and stolen items from it. The vehicle also smelled of marijuana.
Myers was found walking the streets at Price Street at Fairfield Avenue. He was wearing black and his pockets were bulging. Myers had a marijuana odor and appeared unusually nervous.
The keen-eyed officer noted the bulges and searched the suspect. The officer reportedly found coins, a smartwatch, a checkbook, leather wallet, and marijuana.
Myers was transported to the Lower Merion Police headquarters where he was processed and charged with three counts of receiving stolen property, three counts of possession of an instrument of a crime and possession of a controlled substance.
According to Officer Justin Judge of the LMPD, it was unclear whether Myers was released or held until arraignment.
