Norristown, PA — The Montgomery County Planning Commission is looking towards the public to submit nominations for Projects and the people behind those projects representing the best in site design, environmental stewardship, and planning advocacy in Montgomery County. Nominations for the 2019 Montgomery Awards must be received by May 10, 2019

The prestigious annual awards program was conceived to promote awareness of outstanding building design and innovative site planning in communities within the county.  The programming knowledge is the high quality of work and commitment of communities, organizations, and professionals in contributing to excellent projects.

The last project in Lower Merion that won an award was the Bryn Mawr Village.  Located on the 900 block of Lancaster Ave. near Merion Avenue. Bryn Mawr Village received an Award for creative vision, effective site design, and successful collaboration.

The site is in the Bryn Mawr business district and encompasses 3.1 acres, which included 52,000 ft.² of buildings with roughly 35,000 ft.² of retail and 17,000 ft.² office.  The Montgomery awards list the key features of the project as infill redevelopment, site planning, collaborative effort.


Narberth was last represented in 2016 with the Narberth Place project that received a Montgomery Award for exceptional adaptive reuse, historic preservation, creative site design, and successful community collaboration.

The project covered nearly an acre of land and not only preserved two historic buildings and added new residences that complement the style and character of the surrounding neighborhood. Narberth Place consists of Elm Hall (the former church), Barrie House (the former parsonage), and Vauclain Manor, a newly constructed 3-unit townhouse building.

The MCPC land development projects eligible can be residential, office, commercial and institutional types that exemplify good site design Including building placement, project context, parking and circulation, pedestrian amenities, landscaping, and sustainable design practices.

The county is also looking for nominations of an individual or organization that has made significant and subsisting contributions to advancing or promoting planning and Montgomery County for consideration of a planning advocate award.

The MCPC also announced a partnership with Montgomery County Conservation District to offer an environmental stewardship award as part of the Montgomery Awards program.  This award recognizes a project completed in the past three years, which exemplifies the practices of environmental stewardship and conservation for water and soil quality.

Information on the program, past award winners, eligibility and nomination requirements, and online entry forms are available on the County website.

Winning projects are selected by a committee consisting of members from the Montgomery County Planning Commission Board, and award recipients are honored at an awards presentation. The Montgomery County Conservation District selects the Environmental Stewardship Award.
