Lower Merion High School's Bryant Gymnasium recently played host to a fun-filled fundraiser as hundreds of students, parents, faculty, staff and community members gathered to watch the world-famous Harlem Wizards take on the LMSD Goats in a charity basketball game benefiting A Better Chance in Lower Merion, the Lower Merion Township Scholarship Fund and Lower Merion High School Student Activities.
The Wizards – a traveling troupe of elite basketball players and entertainers who help schools and non-profits raise money for various causes – wowed the crowd with their high-flying dunks and majestic ball-handling skills as they went head-to-head with the home team. The Goats roster was comprised of faculty and staff from throughout the District.
All those in attendance had the opportunity to witness an array of awesome athletic feats combined with hilarious on-court antics, which made for a highly entertaining afternoon, all for a great cause.
Crowd members also quickly realized they were more than just spectators as the Wizards engaged audience members and children by bringing them on the court and involving them throughout the entire afternoon.
Overall, it was a good game as both teams played hard. The Goats gave their best effort against the Wizards but were ultimately overmatched as they were unable to keep pace with their formidable opponents. Win or lose, however, it did not matter, as the game was about having fun, entertaining the crowd and raising money to support various educational initiatives and programs in LMSD.
