From the kids’ summer reading to mom’s beach books, there is a pretty good bargain going on in Lower Providence Township. You can even feed the reading bug while giving back to a good cause at the same time.

The Lower Providence Community Library (LPCL), located at 50 Parklane Drive in Eagleville, is hosting a $5 per bag book sale. Through June 30, the sale, organized by the Friends of the Lower Providence Community Library, Inc., encourages summer reading while still raising funds for the library’s programs and materials.

“The purpose of the Friends of the Lower Providence Community Library is to support the mission, vision, and philosophy of the LPCL,” states the Friends’ website operated by co-presidents Cathy Kinsley and Claudette Sherman. “The Friends serve as liaisons between the community and the library. The Friends fulfill the its purpose by conducting fundraising events, community activities and advocacy programs to focus positive public attention on library resources, facilities and services.”

The ongoing book sale, which runs throughout the year in different forms, is always open. Since 1997 it has been one of many fundraisers that have helped The Friends donate more than $100,000 to the library.

Those that already find themselves with overloaded bookshelves can also consider donating to the library in the form of used books. A complete description of what is acceptable is found on the website, as well.

“We have had people coming in like crazy donating books,” said one library staff member.

For just $5 per plastic grocery bag, which are available at the library so guests don’t have to have one on them, patrons can fill the bag with any style of books. The sale includes hardback fiction and non-fiction works, paperback fiction and non-fiction, children’s books, books-on-tape and even DVDs.

The current sale runs through June 30. For more information on the book sale, visit the LPCL website here or call 610-666-6640. Donations of books can be accepted during normal business hours of the library.
