Do you have what it takes? The Lower Providence Community Library is seeking “a skilled, energetic individual with a strong interest in public library service and excellent interpersonal and communications skills to fill the position of Reference & Adult Services Librarian.”

According to Lynn Burkholder, Library Director, the role is part-time.

“This is a part-time position for 25 hours per week,” said Burkholder. “Key responsibilities include providing information and technology assistance to library patrons, planning and providing adult programming and instruction responsive to community interests and needs, developing a readers’ advisory service and sharing in the selection of adult materials.”

The director said ideal individuals would already have a vast knowledge of using the library.

“The person in this position must be proficient in using library online and print resources to provide information service, knowledgeable and practiced in using current and emerging technologies and social media, innovative in designing programs and services around new technology, creative in developing adult programs to suit a wide variety of interests, and able to effectively provide instruction and training individually and to a group,” said Burkholder.

In order to apply for the role, an individual must prove the following Requirements of the Position:


·      ALA accredited Masters Degree in Library Science preferred; MLS/MLIS students will be considered

·      Minimum of one year library experience working with the public, including some experience providing training or instruction to others

·      Familiarity with library automation systems, databases, and online resources

·      Familiarity with literature and a wide range of reading interests

·      Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite

·      Valid PA Driver’s License is required


The salary for the role will depend on experience, but is expected to range from $20 to $21.50 per hour.
“Hours include daytime, at least one evening per week and one Saturday per month,” said Burkholder. “Some flexibility is desired.”
