There is one lone wrestler headed to the state level of competition representing Methacton High School. Heavyweight Tracey Green, a senior for the squad, heads to the mats starting Thursday night at 4 p.m.

Methacton Varsity Wrestling Coach Anthony A.J. Maida said he’s been looking forward to the trip to Hershey, and it wasn’t for the chocolate. The 230-pound wrester is small for his division but very strong.

“His biggest strength is his strength,” said Maida. “He is a physical kid. He trained hard, and has done incredible conditioning. He’s great at getting into a single leg, but the bottom line is his strength.”

Maida said that the road to victory isn’t an easy one, and things are not over yet.

“He has done the work that has to be done to get this strong,” said Green’s coach.

Green is seeded number one in the Southeastern Region. He’ll compete in the PIAA AAA division in the Heavyweight bracket.

“He’s got a 36-1 record,” said Maida. “But every match is a tough on at this level. This is the best in the country, and every one is winnable, but each one could be a loss, and Tracey knows that.”

Maida said that the state of Pennsylvania is one of the best in the nation for wrestling, producing some of the United State’s best.

“The caliber of kids here is unmatched,” he said. “Tracey knows to take every match one at a time.”

Last year, the muscular wrestler placed sixth in the state as a junior.

“My goal in the off-season is to get bigger,” said Green at the time of his loss. “I think I could have gotten fifth. I will try to get up my size, get a little bigger, and I’ll be back.”

For the 2014 season, Green was ready.

“I will win districts, win regionals, and then states,” he said. “I’m coming back to win the state championship.”

Madia said that Green has not finalized his plans beyond MHS. He’s focused on the state finals.

“He is still weighing his options, to find where he fits best, academically and athletically,” said the coach.

Green will wrestle tonight, around what Madia guessed to be about 7 p.m. The matches continue along Green’s bracket with play on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and finals beginning Saturday at 9 a.m. All matches are taking place at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.All results will be posted to Lower Providence TAP following the matches.
