CHATHAM, NJ - June 14, 2017, 8:30 p.m. Following a lengthy investigation, The Chatham Township Police Department, along with members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, conducted a search of a residence located at 11 Lincoln Circle in Chatham Township. During the search of the residence, officers located packaged marijuana, items used in the distribution of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and several thousand dollars in cash.

During the search of the residence, Chatham Township Officers and Morris County Sheriff’s Officers rendered first aid to an individual who became unresponsive due to a possible drug overdose. Officers administered Narcan successfully and the individual regained responsiveness.

Sheriff James M. Gannon said of the event: “Our Canine Handler James VanValen is one of several Sheriff’s Officers currently trained in the use of Naxolone; soon, however, the entire agency will be able to administer lifesaving doses of Narcan. Chief Steven Hennelly and I are both proud of the fact that while carrying out other Public Safety duties, Detective VanValen and Patrolman Scott Herchick and Detective Anthony LoPorto were able to put their training to work in order to save a life”.

They were processed and released pending a future court date. Chief Hennelly states "The successful conclusion to this lengthy investigation should send a clear message that we stand committed to assuring that our neighborhoods are safe and drugs have no place in them."
