Fairleigh Dickinson University invites
the public to a free clarinet and piano recital on Monday, April 8 at
7:30 p.m. in Lenfell Hall, Hennessy Hall at the College at Florham.

The recital will be a collaboration of FDU adjunct clarinet professor
Justin Stanley with pianist Irena Portenko. The program will include
Francis Poulenc's Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Johannes Brahms’
Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in E-flat Major, Robert Muczynski’s
“Time Pieces” for Clarinet and Piano, Debussy’s “Première Rhapsodie”
for Clarinet and Piano, and "Skylands Idyll" for Solo Clarinet by FDU
music professor Allen Cohen.

Stanley has performed across the United States at venues including the
Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and Chicago’s Symphony Center and has
played with orchestras such as the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, the
West Shore Symphony, the Plymouth Symphony, the Adrian Symphony, and
the Chicago Civic Orchestra. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in
Clarinet Performance at the University of Michigan and a Master of
Music from Yale University. In addition to teaching at FDU, he serves
on the music faculties of Sacred Heart University and the Music
Conservatory of Westchester.

Ukrainian-born Portenko gave a critically acclaimed debut at Carnegie
Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and has appeared as a soloist with
orchestras in the USA, Austria, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Republic of
Korea. She released a CD of Chopin’s Études on the Blue Griffin Label,
which was met with significant critical praise. Portenko holds a
Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from
the University of Michigan. She serves on the faculty of the Music
Conservatory of Westchester and also maintains a private piano studio.
