MADISON, NJ—Engineering Explorations day camp will return July 10 through 28 to Madison High School on 170 Ridgedale Ave. for a second year, now with a full-day option, after receiving positive feedback from both parents and campers.

An extended session, which will allow children an extra two hours of camp time between 3:15 and 5:15 p.m., is now available for an extra charge as part of the newly offered full day.

The camp aims to help 8- to 15-year-old students develop engineering skills through projects that focus on problem solving, and new courses will be added to this year’s curriculum, according to camp staff.

“We strive to build not only your child’s academic skills but their leadership skills as well through cooperative learning in a supportive environment,” the camp said.

With a strong emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) content and hands-on activities, campers will have the opportunity to create a model roller coaster, solar-powered car and water-powered rocket, which they can bring home once completed. Kids can also design their own t-shirts and stickers, alarm and robotic circuits, or learn about Arduino programming.

“My son enjoyed the camp and always looked forward to the next day's activities,” parent John J. said. “He was exposed to the basic principles of physics and engineering and loved building the roller coaster and rocket.”

A new spin on recess will give kids a chance to explore the outdoors while they examine technologies new and old.

“There is a tech recess where you fly drones, play video games, do virtual reality and use a 3D printing pen,” said camper Stephen Z. Campers can also drive RC cars and play old school video games during this part of the day.

Each child will receive an engineering portfolio chock full of STEM activities that they will complete throughout their time at camp. Parents can sign their kids up for one-, two- and three-week sessions. Registration is available on a week-by-week basis, as each week focuses on a different major project. Standard camp days begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.

All campers will receive an Engineering Explorations t-shirt, pen and drawstring bag on their first day. For more information about Engineering Explorations, click here.
