Fierce Start for the Madison Area YMCA Mariners Swim Team

MADISON, NJ – The Madison Area YMCA Mariners swim team started the 2017-18 season off with a bang at the Wyckoff Fall Frenzy swim meet on Nov. 4 and 5 at the Wyckoff Family YMCA.

Impressive results were posted across all age groups in a variety of events.

Leading the way with first-place finishes for the boys team were Tirian Chang in the 50-yard butterfly for ages 9-10, Collin Faraher in the 100-yard backstroke for 11- and 12-year-olds and Brendan Fowler in the 400-yard individual medley.

Chang also placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke.

Faraher placed second in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke in the 11-12 age bracket, and Fowler placed fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle.

There were a number of other top-six finishes on the boys team.

Anuthra Abeysinghe placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke and fifth in the 50-yard backstroke in the 9-10 age group.

Owen Smith placed fifth in three events: 100-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley.

Ryan Snarr placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly for the 11-12 age bracket, while Owen Weller placed third in the 100-yard backstroke.

Rounding out the boys team were strong finishes in the open events, with Terry Luongo placing second in the 200-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200-yard butterfly, second place for Atticus Chang in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley and third place for Kyle Beebe in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Kaley Snarr had an impressive first-place finish for the girls team in the open 1,000-yard freestyle. Snarr also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle.

Rounding out the open events were strong finishes by Hannah Corcoran, who was awarded second place in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Isabella Guarino, who came in fifth place in the 500-yard freestyle. Guarino also placed second in the 100-yard backstroke and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke, both for swimmers ages 11-12.

Emily Houng placed second for the 9-10 age group in the 50-yard butterfly, with Maeve Kelly placing third in the 50-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 50-yard backstroke.

Chloe Thorn Lesson placed fifth in the 200-yard individual medley and sixth in the 50-yard butterfly. In the youngest age group, 7-year-old Julia Jadro placed third in the 50-yard backstroke.
