MADISON, NJ - As a follow up to its successful Town Swap, the Madison Environmental Commission is encouraging residents to go green by hosting individual yard sales on one common date at one common time: Saturday, October 13, 9a.m. to 1p.m..

“If everyone in town plans a yard sale on the same Saturday, it will be a fun town-wide event and a great way to shop for bargains,” says Claire Whitcomb, Environmental Commission chair.

Residents can list their yard sales along with the type of merchandise offered through digital ads at TAPintoMadison.net who is the media sponsor of the event. See directions below.

"We are going to use our social media platforms, local digital news along with individual ads to promote this event in partnership with the Madison Environmental Commission," said Jacquie Dinsmore Editor of TAPintoMadison.  "It's a great idea and we are excited to be a part of it. This larger format event will attract a lot of shoppers locally."

To place an ad visit https://www.tapinto.net/events/new and fill out the form with all your yard sale information and address. Be sure to click NON-PROFIT and MADISON only as the LOCAL SITE. Digital ads are $10 each and will be published on TAPintoMadison.net and marketed to its sister sites in neighboring towns.  Ads will be published in the Events Calendar and a master list will be generated for download before the event.

“The goal of a town-wide yard sale is to reduce consumption, encourage reuse and get to know our neighbors,” says Whitcomb. “We’re hoping this will be a zero waste event and residents will arrange for their leftovers to be picked up by local nonprofits.”

Nonprofits that offer home pickups after the event include the Vietnam Veterans of America, www.vva.org, who will pick up clothing, shoes, household items, toys, books, bikes, small appliances, tools, bedding, draperies, curtains, electronics, jewelry and cosmetics. Market Street Mission, www.marketstreet.org, has a thrift store and pick up service that accepts furniture, bedding, clothes, household items, cars and trucks. Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, www.morrisrestore.org/donate. ReStore accepts antiques, furniture, flooring, brand new plumbing, painting supplies, doors and more.
