The 2011/12 Drew Forum series, which marks the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, will feature Pervez Musharraf, former president of Pakistan, on November 1. In recognition of the 9/11 anniversary, this year’s lecture series is focused on terrorism and national security.
Musharraf, who will speak at 8:00 p.m., served as the tenth president of Pakistan from 1999 to 2008. His government, which remained in power until his resignation, was an ally of the U.S. in its War on Terror. Musharraf supported military actions against the Taliban by allowing the United States to use three strategically located Pakistani airbases for Operation Enduring Freedom, the official name of the U.S. government’s war in Afghanistan. He also denounced terrorism and Islamic extremism from the lectern in several high-profile speeches delivered after the 9/11 attacks.
The Drew Forum has been this region’s leading venue for public lectures since 1994. Later speakers in this year’s series include noted foreign affairs expert Robin Wright (March 21, 2012) and former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates (April 11, 2012).
Tickets to Musharraf’s appearance at Drew are $32. A handling fee will be added to each order. To purchase tickets, please call the box office at 973/408-3917. Parking for the event will be at Giralda Farms; patrons will be taken to and from the lecture venue by chartered bus.
