MADISON, NJ - The Madison Varsity Baseball team scored a victory over Hanover Park in the quarterfinals of their state tournament Thursday afternoon.

The one-seeded Dodgers were hot off of an 11-1 win over Ridgefield Park in the first round this past Monday. They started the game strong from the first pitch, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Seventh-seeded Hanover Park was quick to answer with three quick outs in the second inning, but Madison held a lead the entire game.

Junior Michael Maybaum pitched well throughout the first five innings, and Will Hart, also a junior, secured the win, finishing off the game. Hart and senior Paul Links both came up big at the plate. Hart went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and Links had three RBIs as well. The final out was made on a line out to junior Andre Delacruz at first. The final score was 7-2, and Madison is now 22-5 for the season.

The victory was especially sweet as Madison lost to Hanover Park in the tournament last year. With Thursday’s win behind them, Madison will face the winner of fourth-seeded Leonia versus fifth-seeded Lyndhurst in the semifinals of the NJSIAA North 2, Group 2 Tournament on May 29th.
