I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ - There is no better time than summer to celebrate our national treasure, ice cream. President Ronald Reagan knew the pleasure of that tasty cold treat, proclaiming in 1984 that July would be National Ice Cream Month in our nation every year.

In Morris County, National Ice Cream Month will be celebrated with a mix of history on Saturday, July 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Historic Speedwell, the national landmark in Morristown, with a special historic program called “All Scream for Ice Cream.’’

Participants will discover the history of ice cream, its classic flavors, and recipes from the 1800s, brought to you by folks at Historic Speedwell in period costumes.

The Morris County event observes the call by President Reagan for all people of the United States to observe National Ice Cream Month with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."

The International Ice Cream Association (IICA) encourages retailers and consumers to celebrate July as National Ice Cream Month. In 2015, National Ice Cream Day will be Sunday, July 19.

About 10.3 percent of all the milk produced by U.S. dairy farmers is used to produce ice cream, contributing significantly to the economic well-being of the nation's dairy industry, according to the ICAA.

Admission to the Historic Speedwell event is $5/adults, $4/seniors (ages 4 – 16), $3/ages 4-16, FREE/ages under 4. For more information call 973.285.6550 or visit

For GPS: Historic Speedwell is located at 333 Speedwell Avenue, Morristown, N.J. 07960.
