Innovative Approach to Preschool Captures the Hearts and Minds of Parents and Children

FLORHAM PARK, NJ - It’s just another Tuesday at the London Day School, however what a visitor sees when they walk through the blue door is anything but ordinary.

On this particular day, students in the Preschool Prep Class, a class for students 18 months and older, are creating multi-dimensional artwork; children in the Rising 3s are counting the days of the week in Spanish before they walk upstairs to start their monthly leadership mentoring project; a class of children in the Rising 4s are engaged in a science lesson where they are learning the basics of chemistry by making their own play dough; and one of the Pre-K classes is performing a song in Mandarin for visitors from Brighton Gardens Assisted Living.

The bright yellow classrooms with fanciful carpets are brimming with children’s artwork.

Founder Danielle Lindner points out they have had students travel from as far as Essex, Union and Somerset counties as well as New York State for the program.

With classes designed to purposely be about 30 percent smaller than others and with more teaching staff to students than the average school, London Day School includes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math), a fitness program, Spanish, a proprietary and critically acclaimed children’s character education series, service projects and the option for an afternoon Manderin class. Children also spend time enjoying their whimsical playgrounds with room to run and Crooked Houses as well as stretch, or rock and roll in their children’s fitness studio. Children are also kept engaged and moving throughout the day as they explore the exhibits and artwork in the kids gallery, pick out their favorite book from the library or learn about dinosaurs or sea creatures in the Science room, whose ceiling is adorned with 3D models of the solar system.

"When a child is picked up at the end of the day, and they ask their parent, if they can stay 'just one more minute,' we know our job is well done," Lindner said.

The London Day School has a rolling admissions process and is currently enrolling students through the 2017 school year. For information about The London Day School or to schedule a tour, visit the school website at or call them at (973) 377-0311.
