MADISON, NJ The Madison Boys’ Soccer Team took a victory over Morris Hills in the first round of the Morris County Tournament Saturday afternoon. This was their second win of the tournament after beating Kinnelon in the preliminary round last weekend.
Things were not looking good for the Dodgers early in the game. Morris Hills put in the first goal of the game in the first half, and nearly scored again a few minutes later. The shot was stopped by a great save by junior goalkeeper Brendan Armstrong. Still, Morris Hills lead at halftime.
However, Madison kept their intensity up throughout the game. Following halftime, senior Trevor Klosinski tied the game up with a goal off of senior Jack Hanson’s assist. Armstrong stopped Morris Hills from taking the lead with another incredible save with just seventeen minutes left in the game. The score remained tied at the end of regular time.
As the game was part of the county tournament, it went into sudden death overtime. Madison did wait too long, however, before securing the win. Only three minutes in, senior Christian Wong assisted to junior Brendon Ocampo, who made an impressive move to put a second goal in the net. The final score was 2-1.
Seventh-seeded Madison will now play the winner of second-seeded Mendham and fifteenth-seeded Hanover Park in the quarterfinals next Sunday, October 7th.
