Madison Community House Fire Displaces Residents and Children Wednesday Morning

MADISON, NJ - A third floor residential fire in the Madison Community House Building brought Emergency Management together Wednesday morning for the second straight day in the borough.

The two alarm fire at 25 Cook Ave "began in a residential apartment on the third floor of the building," said Madison Fire Chief Lou DeRosa on the scene this morning. "The alarm sounded and all occupants of the building including all the children who attend the community house morning care programs followed protocol and did exactly what they were supposed to.  Everyone exited the building safely."

The Madison community house is home to before and aftercare for local students as well as nursery school program which is run by the Thursday Morning Club, a not-for-profit out of the building's first floor.

Children's parents were notified via phone, email and social media that all children were safe and should be picked up.

"We are not sure what caused the fire.  We will be starting our investigation to determine that, it is too early to tell," said DeRosa. "There is fire and water damage to the third floor as well as water damage to the second floor from what we can see right now.  We will need to do a full assessment as to what areas of the building can be re-occupied if any at this time."

The Community House fire comes on the heals of a Main Street shut down and power outage Tuesday morning in the borough cause by a truck fire.

"These fires were fought by mutual effort from surrounding towns as well as management coordination with EMS and the police department," added DeRosa.
